Romanian Savagery in Dealing with Stray Dogs Ooze Online received the following email from Pro Animals in Romania which was so upsetting that we felt it should be published just as it is. On Friday night my mother (Carmena
Serbanoiu - president of Pro Animals, Tg-Jiu, Romania) received a secret
phone call that on Saturday, 7th of February, in
Matasari ( a small village near Tg-Jiu, 30 km distance) will
take place an action, organized by the mayor of that village, of
shooting the stray dogs.
This kind of action took place the last two years on 8th of February also. I
think you remember that last year we sent on the Internet pictures with what
happened there and also we put some details on the web site. What we saw is beyond
imagination: people that receive social help from
the city hall , armed with shovels, stones, clubs, in their hands, were
chasing the stray dogs
(were hitting them in the heads) between the blocks and
forward them towards the hunters who were shooting them.
There were nightmare scenes that may seem incredible.
The dogs that had been shot were collected by those people and their
corpses were put into a trailer and carried away. We tried to stop all this slaughter but it was impossible. It seemed that all the inhabitants were involved in this,it was like a uprising. No one listened to us, people (if I can call them this) were behaving very badly, rude to us, some tried even to hit us and our car to scare and threaten us. We were just four and they were an entire village. My father filmed some scenes. But, he couldn't do more because the driver of the trailer tried many times to run over him with the trailer. Also the hunters headed the gun towards us, threaten us and wanted to take my father's camera. He managed to film a little inside the trailer, which was full of dead dogs. To be honest, I was shocked, I couldn't believe people can be so savage, one can see their hate in their eyes. It was scary all this. We felt so helpless. Afterwards, we went to the city hall and
to the police from Matasari. We saw the
documents where the mayor, Gaspar Gheorghe, asked
the Hunters Agency's help for shooting the dogs.
It's all on the papers. I will start sending e-mails about this and ask people write a fax to that mayor, Gaspar Gheorghe, and also write e-mails to the Prefect of Gorj and to the prime minister. Please, we
are asking you to write a fax to the mayor of Matasari, Gaspar All three are from PSD party (whose policy is to exterminate the dogs as soon as possible -for example, last year in December on the local TV post was invited a very influent person from PSD. An inhabitant from Matasari called and asked him, live, what he can do with the stray dogs because he can't stand them anymore. That person from PSD said on TV that the inhabitants from Matasari should put their hand on clubs and hit the dogs in their heads and kill them all)
prefect@prefecturagorj.ro "Pro Animals" Tg-Jiu, Romania or email proanimals@xnet.ro Brigitte Bardot, actress and animal activist, has sent a letter to the mayor of Matasari, after she heard about the stray dogs that had been shot . Brigitte Bardot wrote that “the animals were tortured, crippled and shot by the hunters who took a sadistic pleasure in their painful death”. With her “heart upset” and with her “eyes full of tears” the actress wrote to the mayor, Gaspar Gheorghe, that he is “a disgrace” to his country. Brigitte Bardot, an ardent protector of the animals, reminded the mayor of Matasari that “while there exists modern ways to stop increasing the number of dogs, you prefer to encourage savageness.” Brigitte Bardot added in her letter to the mayor that she hoped that “the European Union punish the lack of the humanity from Romania by refusing the integration of this country in 2007." At the end of typewritten letter, Brigitte Bardot added a phrase, big and bold, written by hand, which is addressed personally to the mayor, Gaspar Gheorghe, “You are not worthy of being considered a human being.” More Links You might be able to stop the massacre of dogs Don't forget Romania aims to join the European Union in 2007.
